School History
Germain Academy for Academic Achievement also known as Germain St. Elementary is one of the oldest elementary schools in Chatsworth, Califonia opened its door on July, 1st, 1963. Germain St. Elementary was the first LA city school to have air conditioning.
When Chatsworth was founded in 1888, it was parceled out into a farming community of 10 acre lots. And one of those 10 acre lots became Germain Elementary School in 1963.
Using Historicaerials as a source, we have identified the 10-acre parcel in 1959 and 1967 in yellow. In 1959 it was a citrus orchard. In 1967 Germain St Elementary was completed, and surrounded by single-family homes, as exist today.
